Film Classification

Looking at film classification is important, because when targeting a product at an audience you should know what is appropriate to include so your film is not classed as an age rating you had not expected, therefore limiting your audience more than you had intended.

The current BBFC ratings are

  • Suitable for all

  • Parental guidance

  • Cinema release suitable for 12 years and over

  • Video release suitable for 12 years and over

  • Suitable only for 15 years and over

  • Suitable only for adults

  • Adults works for licensed premises only
Personally I think our film will be rated as a 12A, due to infrequent use of strong language, but due to the themes and the references to sex and drugs even not explicitly would mean a 12A classification. These references would often be in films of a drama genre, showing the thoughts and struggles of the protagonist and how they copes with these and they are tempted by alcohol and drugs. Although our film is not focused around these temptations, Alexia does meet some characters that are dealing with these problems.
